Centers for New Horizons is a community nonprofit that serves the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. We assist children, youth, and adults in becoming self-reliant, improving the quality of their lives, and participating in rebuilding their community.
Community SpotlightDonVon’s Journey to Success
When DonVon joined our EmpowerU program for summer work, he was looking for a second chance. Initially reserved and quiet, he embraced the opportunity to learn landscaping and groundskeeping skills at Joe Louis Golf Course. His hard work paid off—at the end of the summer, the golf course hired him for the season.
When the season ended, DonVon reached back out to us, and within two weeks, we connected him with another community partner. Today, he’s working full-time, has increased his wages by $5, and is thriving in his career. DonVon is grateful for the support that helped him change his life, and we couldn’t be prouder of his success!
